Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 23, 2026

Screen to GIF ("the Extension") lets you record your screen, window, or browser tab and convert the recording into a GIF entirely inside your browser. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data we collect — and what we do not.

Summary

Information we collect

We do not collect, store, or transmit your screen recordings, GIFs, filenames, or conversion settings to our servers. Capture and conversion run locally on your computer using the browser's MediaRecorder API and WebAssembly (ffmpeg.wasm).

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information such as your name, email address, browsing history, or the contents of your screen through the Extension.

How recordings are handled

When you start a recording, Chrome asks you to choose a screen, window, or tab. The selected media stream is recorded locally as WebM, then converted to a GIF inside the Extension. Temporary data may be kept in browser memory or IndexedDB on your device until you download the GIF, start a new recording, or clear extension storage. We do not have access to your recordings at any point.

Permissions

The Extension uses a minimal Manifest V3 configuration:

Third-party services

The Extension popup may load the Inter font from Google Fonts for display purposes. Google may receive standard request data (such as IP address) when fonts are fetched. Screen recordings and GIF content are never sent to Google or any other third party for conversion.

If you contact us through our Contact page, the information you submit (such as your email and message) is processed by Formspree, a third-party form service, solely to deliver your message to us.

Data retention

Because we do not collect personal data or upload your media, there is no user recording data retained on our servers. Local temporary blobs are removed when you record again, download and clear them, or remove the Extension.

Children's privacy

The Extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will reflect the latest version. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
